Sinusitis
Sinusitis is inflammation of the mucous membranes lining the sinus cavities which are the air spaces in the bones of the skull above and below the eyes.

Acute sinusitis is often caused by colds or bacterial and viral infections of the nose, throat and upper respiratory tract.

Chronic sinusitis may be caused by small growths in the nose (polyps), injury, smoking, fumes and allergies such as hay fever and (most often) food allergies.

Headaches, loss of smell, pain in the teeth, jaw, cheekbones, over the forehead or behind the eyes are common. Occasionally sinusitis produces a swollen face, stuffy nose and thick discharge of infected mucus. This may lead to ear infections.

A self-help program is necessary to eliminate the causes such as smoking. A diet designed to overcome the food allergies must be implemented. Decrease acid foods and increase alkaline foods. Introduce a ‘whole food’ diet and eliminate mucus forming foods. Exclude dairy products, wheat and refined carbohydrates. Raw foods such as salads, vegetable and fruit juices followed by lightly cooked vegetables are necessary.

The aromatherapy oils are most effective when there is pain and for relieving blockages and stuffiness. Being a powerful antiseptic it will eradicate infection. The oils will decongest, detoxify and disinfect.

Instructions: Externally massage into sinus cavities morning and evening or as needed. Do deep nasal inhalations from the bottle but do not leave the bottle open for extended periods as the oils are volatile and will defuse into the air.
